My friend Katie Harrold is moving back to Minnesota. She and Dave are getting hitched, and they even bought a house. These are photos of the goodbye party. We are at a dive bar in Burbank called The Hitching Post (I think) and tonight was a very funny Beatles cover band. They had costumes for both sets. I think their strength is in the early numbers, but they were just fine.

I have figured out why young people always have shitty luck and the world seems to be against them. The world IS against them. The world of slumbering grownups, that is.

When you are young, you think nothing of throwing and attending loud, raucous apartment parties until late into the night. You think, "that's not so loud, and besides, it Friday night! 1:15am isn't late." What you don't know is that all of the people within earshot are vehemently cursing you. You and your thumping bass. Even the ones who are too cool to call the cops, and fondly remember being 22. Adults really get into sleeping, and having it disturbed makes them very cranky and creative with epithats. The power of all of that negative gris-gris has reprecussions that last for weeks.

As you get older, parties move to spaces and time slots where others won't be as readily disturbed, and no one gets cursed. That's actually the reason why you make more money as you get older, stop smashing up your car and in general, get your shit together. You are not carrying the heavy burden of Party Curses. This also explains why the shy, geeky, non-social kids end up buying houses, investing in IRA's and becoming CEO's at 25. They never partied down, and never had the mojo put upon them.
